 Ex. Paul parle à Louise   Paul lui parle  Ex. J’ai donné le cadeau à mes parents   Je leur ai donné  ex. tu montres la peinture à ta soeur.   tu lui montres la peinture.  ex. Elle a parlé au professeur hier.   Elle lui a parlé hier.

Qu’est-ce qu’un objet indirect?  An indirect object is the answer to the question to whom.  a) I was talking to Michael  To whom were you talking? To Michael. Michael is the indirect object in this sentence  b) He gave the gift to his Aunt.  To whom did he give the gift? To his aunt. His Aunt is the indirect object in this sentence.

Comment emploie-je les pronoms objets indirects?  In French, there are two indirect object pronouns that are used to replace people: lui and leur.  “lui” is used to replace the preposition à + one person.. It means “to him” or “to her”.  “leur” is used to replace the preposition à + more than one person.. It means “to them”. ..

Comment emploie-je les pronoms objets indirects?  The preposition “à” can have different forms. It can be “au”, or “aux”. Either of these plus a person or people will be replaced with the prepositions lui and leur.  **Remember, if we want to replace “à plus a place or thing”, we have to use the pronoun ‘y’.
