GREETINGS AND INTRODUCTIONS In the French-speaking world, different greetings reflect differing degrees of familiarity between people.

Formality is the general rule; informal expressions are reserved for family, friends of long-standing and close associates as well as peers (for example, fellow students)

All but informal greetings are followed by a title: Bonjour Madame! Tu and Vous Always use the vous form when you meet French business colleagues for the first time.

Situation E : - Salut, Pierre - Salut, Eric - Ça va ? - Oui, ça va ; Et toi ? - Ça va mal.

3-INTRODUCTIONS Shaking hands Always shake hands when you are introduced to someone and when you meet an acquaintance for the first time that day.

Bonjour or Salut, Pierre! are always accompanied by a handshake. Enchanté(e) The most common response when you are first introduced to someone is simply Enchanté(e)
