Hadronic physics Where do we want to go? To do what? Present situation Who and When? Personnel and budget Hadronic physics meeting 19/09/2006 Th. Hennino
Where do we want to go? Concentrate on a limited set of problematics in the future Short term: fulfill our commitments (some weaknesses here and there) Long term future – – JLAB12GeV Hadronic physics meeting 19/09/2006 Th. Hennino
To do what? The structure of hadrons (NUCLEON, baryons, mesons) – At JLAB: GPDs well established experimentally and theoretically – At PANDA Time like form factor (the present hobby-horse) GPDs: new topic under development (french theoretician) Other EM processes transition distribution amplitudes: knowledge is there Hadronic channels (dominate the cross section!) Hadron spectroscopy (completely new field for all of us) – Learning phase – Keep an eye on the running detectors (Babar, Belle, etc..) Hadrons in the medium ( s rest., cf HADES) ?? It is important to strengthen the interaction with theoreticians Hadronic physics meeting 19/09/2006 Th. Hennino
Present situation Constitution of a group at IPN in 2004 (merging forces towards a unique goal: PANDA) Work on PANDA – Physical aspects (physics case still in evaluation process ) p_bar p e + e - (time-like FF) fundamental quantity, feasibility quite challenging p_bar p e + e - X ? Feasibility to be studied Other channels not yet investigated Need for a strong and urgent manpower support – Technical aspects (strong added value work by the Preparation of JLAB12GeV – Physics aspects: continuation of todays activities no major problem to be foreseen – Technical involvement on the CEA side (+ some ideas at IN2P3) IPN (2004) and IN2P3 (2005) scientific councils. Personnel – 2 recent positions given to IPNOrsay (1 at CEA) + 1 (inside) Hadronic physics meeting 19/09/2006 Th. Personnel and budget Future JLAB12GeV – 3.5 CEA + 3 IPNO + 1 LPSC (2 positions) – Technical contribution under consideration PANDA – 2 IPNO + 1 LPCC : insufficient 3 permanent positions + postdocs on a short term (preparation NOW) on a long term for running the experiment – Technical contribution sound evaluation in 2007 budget & manpower request ( ) 5 positions within the next 7 years would be ideal Hadronic physics meeting 19/09/2006 Th.
