“IT” “HIM” “HER” –the singular pronouns The direct object pronouns which replace THINGS as well as PEOPLE, (in the 3 rd person singular), are the words for “it”, “him” and “her”. Note: the prepositions “to” & “for” may be implied by certain verbs, such as ‘chercher’. These pronouns will be chosen based on the ITEM WHICH IS BEING REPLACED (the direct object).
“IT” “HIM” “HER” –the singular pronouns These pronouns are: LE– replaces masculine, singular nouns LA—replaces feminine singular nouns ***L’ will be used if the next word begins with a vowel sound.*** Examples: Je vois Sophie.---Je la vois. (I see her.) J’écoute le rap.---Je l’écoute. ( I listen to it.) NB—these pronouns may replace people or things as long as these nouns are the DIRECT OBJECT.
“THEM”—the plural pronouns Simple here---when the direct object is 3 rd person PLURAL, you will use “LES”. Examples: J’adore les comédies!---Je les adore! (I love them.) Nous regardons les enfants.--Nous les regardons. (We’re watching them.)
Position Just like the pronouns ME, TE, NOUS & VOUS, these pronouns will be placed in FRONT of the VERB FOR WHICH THEY ARE THE OBJECT. This will most often be the conjugated verb. Negation: the negative words will be positioned around both the pronoun and the verb. Example: Le fast food? Je ne le mange pas. or— Je ne le mange jamais. or-Je ne vais pas le manger.
