OBJECTIVE: To revise the near future tense. To write about what you plan to do in the future to stay healthy, and why.

How many structures do you know to talk about the future? Near future tense: je vais + infinitive Modal verb vouloir (present): je veux + infinitive Modal verb vouloir (conditional): je voudrais + infinitive Conditional of aimer: j’aimerais+ infinitive Proper future tense: je mangerai, je ferai

Future plans – structures with the infinitive je vais + infinitive je voudrais + infinitive je veux + infinitive j’ai l’intention de + infinitive I’m going to… I would like to… I want to… I intend to…

Future plans word mat Roll the dice to build a sentence. A: Time phrase 1-2: à l’avenir (in the future) 3-4: pour améliorer ma santé (to improve my health) 5-6: plus tard (later) B: Verb 1-2: je vais (I’m going to) 3-4: je veux (I want to) 5: je voudrais (I would like to) 6: j’ai l’intention de (I intend to) C: Infinitive 1-2: manger 3: boire 4: jouer 5-6: faire D: Comparative 1-2: plus de (more of) 3-4: moins de (less of) 5-6: beaucoup de (lots of) Add your own ending – a food, drink or activity + reason why you will do more/less of it. eg: if you rolled 2, 6, 5, 1 you would write: À l’avenir, j’ai l’intention de faire plus de sport car c’est bon pour la santé.

1)Roll the dice and write down the correct phrase from box A. 2)Repeat 3 more times for boxes B, C and D. 3)Add your own ending to the sentence (making sure it makes sense based on what you have written so far). Repeat twice more, so you have 3 good sentences. This will give you a total of around 40 words – enough for a whole paragraph!

OBJECTIVE: To revise the near future tense. To write about what you plan to do in the future to stay healthy, and why.

Future plans to stay healthy A l’avenir, pour garder la forme, je vais manger moins de bonbons car ils contiennent beaucoup de sucre. De plus, j’ai l’intention de faire plus de sport car c’est bon pour la santé. Par exemple, je vais faire du jogging deux fois par semaine avec ma mère. Aussi, je voudrais jouer au badminton car c’est amusant. (55 words)

Linking sentences As well as connectives which make your sentences longer (car, parce que, mais…) there are also ones which start sentences to link them into paragraphs. Use these to write a paragraph. Aussi… = Also… Egalement… = Equally/also De plus… = furthermore En outre… = furthermore Par exemple… = for example

OBJECTIVE: To write about what you plan to do in the future to stay healthy, and why.

OBJECTIVE: To revise the futur simple and be able to use it to produce sentences about your lifestyle. ALL: To use present + future si clauses SOME: To use imperfect + conditional si clauses

Si clauses (present + future) These are used for things that are reasonably likely. eg: If I have the time, I will go swimming tomorrow. - That could happen. The first half of the sentence (eg: having enough time) needs to be something fairly normal/possible.

Present tense si clause starters: Si je mange trop… Si je deviens gros(se)… Si j’ai le temps… Si je peux… Si j’ai assez d’argent… Si mes parents sont d’accords… Si mes copains veulent m’accompagner… 1)Write out the sentence starters and work out what they mean in English. 2)Add your own endings to them using the future tense (eg: je ferai, je jouerai, je mangerai, je boirai, j’irai, j’acheterai, je serai, je deviendrai). If I eat too much… If I become fat… If I have time… If I can… If I have enough money… If my parents agree… If my friends want to come with me…

Si clauses (imperfect + conditional) These are used for things that are a hypothetical/imaginary situation. eg: Si j’étais un animal je serais un singe. This is not real. Si je gagnais la lotérie, j’acheterais un avion privé et je ferais un tour du monde. This is pretty unlikely, especially if you don’t buy a lottery ticket!

Imperfect tense si clause starters: Si j’avais plus d’argent… Si j’avais le temps… Si j’étais plus actif/active… Si je n’étais pas si paresseux / paresseuse… Même si on me donnait mille euros… If I had more money… If I had the time… If I was more active… If I wasn’t so lazy… Even if you gave me a thousand euros… 1)Write out the sentence starters and work out what they mean in English. 2)Add your own endings to them using the conditional tense (eg: je ferais, je jouerais, je mangerais, je boirais, j’irais, j’acheterais, je serais, je pourrais).
