LHCb Project Farm PC at Point 8 The existing LHCb event-filter farm is located in the UX85A underground area. As cooling and electrical power are limited to approximately 500 kW and the floor space cannot be increased significantly, the construction of a new data centre at the surface is required for the LHCb upgrade. The LHCb upgrade, scheduled for installation during LS2, will enable the experiment to read out data at 40 MHz into a purely software-based trigger. 14 Jan 2016 GTPE

LHCb Project Farm PC at Point 8 In terms of infrastructure, three options are being considered: purchasing a modular (container-based) data centre from a commercial supplier (Participating with ALICE in the MS and IT process), accommodating the data centre in an existing building at Point 8 (e. g. the SX8 hall), constructing a new industrial building at Point 8 dedicated to the data centre. In order to determine the most cost-effective solution, the feasibility of the different options and the estimated costs for civil engineering, site management, electricity, and cooling should be also evaluated; The expected delivery date is Mid-2018. LHCb Project Farm PC at Point 8 3 potential options: A container-based modular data centre could for example be located on the current main parking lot (item 2; Fig.1) or behind building 3852 (item 3; Fig.1) Figure 2 shows how about 80 racks fit on the groundfloor of the SX8 building (item 1), which is sufficient to accommodate the initial stage of the upgrade farm and the IT equipment currently located in room 2885/R-007. ADAM Project Additional Offices Request ADAM SA (Application of Detectors and Accelerators to medicine) is a CERN spin-off based inside CERN; ADAM Company was founded in Dec 2007 by a private investor (A. Colussi) to develop, build and test accelerators for medical applications; Between 2008 and 2010 ADAM has built one unit of a linear accelerator (called LIGHT) for protontherapy, two small accelerators for conventional radiotherapy and one dosimeter (based on CMS silicon detectors) to monitor the dose delivered to the patient during conventional radiotherapy; In 2013 the UK company AVO bought ADAM, now involved in the construction of the full LIGHT accelerator, Since 2007 ADAM has signed several collaboration agreements with CERN, the last two related to the use and manufacturing of the 750 MHz RFQ designed and built by CERN; ADAM at CERN is under BE departement responsibility. 14 Jan 2016 SPOB Meeting
