4 Processeur – Minimum & Recommandé
Requis Recommandé Respecter les minimum requis pour un Windows XP standard Fréquence de fonctionnement équivalente à 1.6GHz sans encodage logiciel. Si le support de l’encodage est logiciel, le processeur doit avoir un minimum de fréquence de fonctionnement équivalent à 3.0GHz Try to emphasize to System Builders that this isn’t some old machine…MCE machines utilize the hardware extensively and will benefit greatly from processors above 2.4 GHz… Don’t skimp on the processor!!

5 Disque Dur – Minimum & Recommandé
Requis Recommandé 60 GB Le plus grand est le mieux ! Un grand disque dur permet de fournir un espace de stockage important pour le contenu enregistré Bigger == Better == More Stored Content…more music, more movies, more Recorded TV and gives more upgradeability for the future.

6 Memoire – Minimum & Recommandé
Requis Recommandé 256MB Pour supporter les scénarios où l’interface de Media Center est accédée au travers d’un réseau et d’un appareil Media Center Extender, un minimum de 512 Mb est fortement recommandé Plus de mémoire, fourni une meilleure expérience utilisateur ! Again…don’t skimp here…what can we say? Windows benefits greatly from lots of memory. And MCE LOVES 1gb or more of RAM. With today’s hardware prices, this is the area where SBs do not want to short-change their customers. More RAM provides a much better experience.

7 Graphique – Minimum & Recommandé
Requis Recommandé 64MB DDR 128MB ou plus, DDR (ou plus) Avec sortie TV et/ou DVI Supported Graphics cards are listed later in the deck… 128MB is STRONGLY recommended for Graphics cards. 64mb *should* work but is never the suggested or recommended amount, particularly with the encoding/decoding functionality of MCE.

8 Lecteur DVD – Minimum & Recommandé
Requis Recommandé Lecteur DVD-ROM Graveur DVD With the ability to record DVDs in MCE 2005 and the cost of DVD Recorders dropping, SBs should always consider including a DVD recorder in the MCE 2005 machines that are shipped. If one is not included, customers will almost assuredly want another one.

9 Connexion Internet – Minimum & Recommandé

10 Matériel – Cartes Vidéo Testées

The cards listed here are expected to pass the logo requirements and receive the MCE Logo shortly. These cards have been shown to work very effectively with MCE 2005. The ATI All In Wonder may not work correctly with some AMD chipsets…AMD CPUs work fine with ATI Graphics.  The ATI All in Wonder cards have the TV tuner and graphics on one board.  ATI only supports the All in Wonder SW encode solution on Intel Hyper Threaded CPUs.  We don’t recommend the All in Wonder as a TV tuner+graphics solution for MCE 2005 for system builders.  It works, but has very little support from Microsoft or ATI.

Next, install the System Memory. Remember what was discussed earlier…more Memory makes a happy Media Center 2005 machine! Memory here is DDR.

Now, add in the AGP Video Card. AGP Video card here will allow for the best upgrade possibility for Single to Dual TV Tuners as the TV tuners need to be identical.

17 Connecteurs de la carte Tuner TV
S-Video In Left and Right Audio In FM Radio Antenna In TV/Coaxial Input Composite Video In TV Tuner…this is a PCI single tuner. MCE 2005 suports dual tuner, but they need to be identical. So, in this case two Hauppauge MCE250 PCI tuners. DO NOT try to use one PCI tuner in conjunction with something like an AGP ATI All-in-Wonder card. Two different TV tuners will not work in MCE 2005, unless one is a Hi-Def TV Tuner.

Here we are putting the TV tuner into the first PCI slot. It is highly suggested that the Tuners be slotted in the first 3 PCI slots. So, two TV tuners, can go in slots 1 and 2 or 1 and 3.

Displaying the front of the chassis. Note the case is an “appliance” form factor which looks similar to a VCR or Amplifier. This design would fit nicely into an Audio/Visual Rack and with the front panel access and front USB/firewire, it allows for easy access and an easy way to add Media (such as pictures and movies) to the MCE 2005 machine. Cases of this style will be much more available in the very near future…they are already available in many markets.

24 Lecteur de Media 7-en-1 A multi-card reader with front panel access is a preferred method for getting media such as pictures and music into your MCE 2005 machine. Adding an SD card or memory stick here will easily display music or videos (AVIs) or pictures right in the Media Center interface.

Sell DVD Recorder Drives! Customers will want them and they are not a very expensive item today, compared to just a short time in the past.

31 Connecter l’alimentation de la Carte Vidéo AGP / PCI Express (si nécessaire)
Now, we’ll start connecting power to the devices… First we will connect power from the power supply to the AGP video card. NOTE…not all video cards require separate power. Many newer cards, do, however, require their own separate power thereby not only receiving power from the AGP slot on the motherboard.

Now, add the power connection to the PCI firewire/USB 2.0 card. Notice that it also requires separate power and does not pull power exclusively from the PCI slot.

Ceci peut être réalisé en ajoutant plusieurs ventilateurs larges our des “heat pipes” Fan needs power too! ;-) Now we will connect the power to the fan. NOTE: Try to use quiet fans and/or possibly slot fans to minimize the noise for MCE machines…especially those built on a “Living Room” type of form factor.

Now, include power to the DVD recorder drive or it will not be seen by the BIOS or the Operating System. And, it’ll be really tough to install an Operating System on a machine where the DVD drive isn’t functioning! ;-)

36 Connecter l’alimentation de la Carte Mère
Here is where you will provide power from the power supply to the motherboard itself. Notice that there are two separate power connections for this motherboard…both a 4pin and a 20pin connector. Here is a top-level view of the entire machine now built with the compoennts from the last 15 or 20 slides. The machine is now ready to have the top case put on and then have the Operating System preinstalled.

Avec Media Center Edition 2005 la carte Tuner TV et la télécommande avec le récepteur IR sont des composants optionnels, malgré cela ils sont fortement recommandés. Media Center Edition 2005 supporte aussi des configuration avec deux Tuner TV (ou cartes Dual Tuner TV) With MCE 2005 the TV tuner and IR receiver are optional components. But, the inclusion of these components is HIGHLY recommended for upgrade possibilities and for the best user experience with Media Center 2005. If you ship a TV tuner, the IR Receiver and remote are required components.

Record 2 separate channels.) Types of encoding – state the reasons for suggesting HW encoding and also the reasons for not recommending SW encoding and why dual SW encoding is not allowed.

62 Sortie Vidéo Composante (YUV)

This is HiDef information…this slide is more of an FYI. There are very few HiDef cards today…but, the overall point is that you cannot run at 1080p or 1080i. Resolution needs to be at 480p max.

Quelque soit votre configuration, testez là et pensez à l’expérience qu’un utilisateur souhaiterai avoir sur cette machine. Installez et utilisez la machine avec les composants que vos clients souhaiteraient avoir sur ce type de machine. En particulier, testez là avec un antivirus temps réel, qui en général ralenti les performances. Les principaux facteurs de performances sont : Mémoire Mémoire Vidéo (UMA ou non) Processeur (HT ou non, ainsi que la vitesse du CPU) System Builders need to ask themselves…”is this the right machine?” “Would I put this in my home?” SBs need to remember that quality matters in MCE 2005 machines. Test the machines…verify them with normally installed applications like Anti-Virus and MS Office. When SBs test their machines, they should remove the previous information setup for MCE 2005 so that the customer gets the opportunity to setup their machine with their correct TV, satellite or cable information. This may require reformatting the machine and re-running the preinstallation process.
