LARSIM : A few words about a new Laboratory Etienne Klein

LARSIM ~ Laboratoire de Recherche sur les sciences de la matière (Research Laboratory on Matter Sciences) Created as part of SPEC in january 2007 Partly financed by the ANR (FoundPhys project) and by Europe (Observatory nanos) LARSIM’s mission is double : - to achieve a better understanding of the issues raised by the DSM’s research activities, especially in cases when they lead to misunderstanding or public anxiety (a good example is nanosciences, which are strongly debated). - to do some work in the field of foundations of physics, which is not very much covered in France.

Second mission of LARSIM : foundations of physics We have created a seminar on the foundations of physics (twenty sessions were held since last January) We have organized an international workshop on the operationnal approach to quantum theory We have worked on the issue of time in physics (workshop in Cargèse, a book has been recently published) Our ongoing work concerns the theoretical landscape in particle physics a few months before the starting of LHC at CERN.
