Research Experience Master’s thesis title: Model for Lattice Thermal Conductivity of Free and Clamped Surface Cylindrical Nanowires (NWs) - Thesis advisor: Dr. Michel Kazan 2018 – present Research Assistant, American University of Beirut – Dr. Michel Kazan  Research in thermal transport due to surface-phonon polaritons (SPP)  Calculation of thermal conductivity due to SPP in cylindrical nanowires and nanotubes (in progress)  Measurements of thermal diffusivity due to SPP modes in amorphous SiO 2 and SiC ultra-thin films using pulsed Infra-red (IR) laser techniques 3

Master’s thesis research Objective of the research: Development of an analytical model for the prediction of thermal conductivity of NWs, and investigation of the effect of different surface conditions on the thermal conductivity - Effect of surface roughness - Effect of clamped And free surface Boundary conditions Large difference in thermal conductivity may be used to modulate the thermal current Comparison with experimental measurements reported by Li et al. Measurement of thermal diffusivity in thin films using Infra-red (IR) Laser flash experiment Energy balance equation provides a differential equation for transient temperature distribution Thermal diffusivity The knowledge of the heat diffusivity allows the determination of the transient temperature distribution in the material and the rate at which the material reaches a state of thermal equilibrium 6
