The near future tense – how does it work? Je vais faire mes devoirs. Il va faire la cuisine. Nous allons aider à la maison. Elles vont jouer au tennis. Tu vas manger chez nous ce soir ?

Le futur proche (The near future) This form of the future tense is called the simple or the ‘close’ (proche) future tense, because it describes what is going to happen, and there are no exceptions to any of the rules below! The simple future (The ‘going to’ way) To use this type of future tense we need to have 3 parts: 1.The subject pronoun (je, tu, il, elle, nous, vous, ils, elles) 2.The right part of ‘aller’ (to go) 3.The infinitive of the verb (the form found in the dictionary that end in: -ER, -IR or –RE)

E.g. Je vais aller – I am going to go Tu vas discuter – You are going to discuss Il va parler – He is going to speak Elle va manger – She is going to eat Nous allons jouer – We are going to play Vous allez regarder – You are going to watch Ils vont écouter – They are going to listen Elles vont avoir – They are going to have *The words in red are the part of ‘aller’ that we need. **The words that are underlined are all the infinitives.
