Le Passé Composé J'ai fini Elle a dansé Il a voyagé What is the “passé composé”? How do I conjugate the passé composé? What are some common past participles? Elle a dansé Il a voyagé

What is the Passe Compose? The passé composé is a verb tense which is used to describe events which occurred in the past. It may be compared to the English past tense such as in sentences like: -- I ate my sandwich (or) -- I have eaten my sandwich

How do I conjugate the passé composé? The following equation may be used to help remember the order: subject + conjugation of + past avoir * participle ex: Tu as parlé (you have spoken) *note: There are some verbs which use être instead of avoir, but we will learn more about these special verbs later…

Some common past participles: *Note that all regular ER verbs have a past participle which ends in é , IR verbs have a past participle ending in i and most regular RE past participles end in u. Regarder = regardé Parler = parlé Voyager = voyagé Finir = fini Choisir = choisi Vendre = vendu Rendre = rendu

Here are some commonly used verbs and their past participles “Irregular verbs…” (verbs which do not follow a pattern for the past participle) Here are some commonly used verbs and their past participles Être = été Avoir = eu Faire = fait Prendre = pris Voir = vu Courir = couru Conduire= conduit Lire = lu Devoir = dû Vouloir = voulu Pouvoir = pu Dormir = dormi

Pour Pratiquer... Conjugate each verb in the passé composé with the subject provided. Ex: Je + voyager = (I have travelled) = J’ ai voyagé Je + regarder= (I have watched) = ________ ________ ___________ Tu + parler = (You have spoken) = ________ ________ ___________ Il + voyager = (He has travelled) = ________ ________ ___________ Nous + rendre visite = (We have visited) = ________ ________ ___________ Vous + être = (You have been) = ________ ________ ___________ Elles + avoir = (They have had ) = ________ ________ ___________ Je + conduire = (I have driven) = ________ ________ ___________ Tu + lire = (You have read) = ________ ________ ___________ Elle + pouvoir = (She has been able to) = ________ ________ ___________ Nous + devoir = (We have had to) = ________ ________ ___________ Vous + choisir = (You have chosen) = ________ ________ ___________ Ils + finir = (They have finished) = ________ ________ ___________

LE CORRIGÉ Conjugate each verb in the passé composé with the subject provided. Ex: Je + voyager = (I have travelled) = J’ ai voyagé Je + regarder= (I have watched) = Tu + parler = (You have spoken) = Il + voyager = (He has travelled) = Nous + rendre visite = (We have visited) = Vous + être = (You have been) = Elles + avoir = (They have had ) = Je + conduire = (I have driven) = Tu + lire = (You have read) = Elle + pouvoir = (She has been able to) = Nous + devoir = (We have had to) = Vous + choisir = (You have chosen) = Ils + finir = (They have finished) = J’ai regardé Tu as parlé Il a voyagé Nous avons rendu visite Vous avez été Elles ont eu J’ai conduit Tu as lu Elle a pu Nous avons dû Vous avez choisi Ils ont fini
