Henri regarde la télévision. Quest-ce que Henri regarde ? Il regarde la télévision. Il la regarde. Est-ce quil regarde les films ? Non, il ne les regarde pas.

Agreement The direct object pronoun agrees with the noun in replaces in: GENDER NUMBER la (feminine, singular) e.g. la pomme le (masculine, singular) e.g. le stylo les (plural) e.g. les lunettes

Placement Notice that the direct object pronoun (la, le, les) is ALWAYS placed before the verb in French. Je mange la pomme. Je la mange. In English the direct object pronoun is placed after the verb. I eat the apple. I eat it. DO NOT CONFUSE THIS!

Forming negative statements with direct object pronouns Rule: the direct object pronoun is placed between the ne / n and the verb Je ne les mange pas. I dont eat them. Je ne laime* pas. I dont like it. *Use elision (the apostrophe) for verbs beginning with a vowel

Subject verb agreement The direct object pronoun agrees with the noun it replaces in gender and number. This does not affect the subject-verb agreement Correct: Je mange les pommes. Je les mange. Incorrect: Je mange les pommes. Je les mangent.
