OBJECTIF: Arrondir un grand nombre

Objective: Round-Off numbers

Rounding-off numbers Why??? To make larger numbers easier to work with. What is a rounded number??? It is not an accurate number but rather an approximate or estimated answer.

Comment arrondir un nombre? 1.

How to round-off a number? 1. Underline the digit that corresponds to the place value at which you have to round off. Ex: Round off 341 to the closest tens… underline as follow: Look at the digit to the right of the underlined digit: If the digit is 5 or more, add one to the underlined digit and put zeros in all of the place values to the right. If the digit is 4 or less, leave the underlined digit as is, and put zeros in all of th eplace values to the right.

EXEMPLES!!!!! Arrondir 4697 à la centaine près (round- off 4697 to the closest hundred). A) 4697 B) 4697 … 9 > 5 C) = 4700 Arrondir 3922 à la dizaine près (round- off 3922 at the closest ten). A) 3922 B) 3922 … 2 < 5 C) = 3920

EXAMPLES!!!!! Round 4697 to the nearest hundred: A) 4697 B) 4697 … 9 > 5 C) = 4700 Round 3922 to the nearest ten: A) 3922 B) 3922 … 2 < 5 C) = 3920
