Present tense You will use this tense to describe what:- is happening happens (on a regular basis) does happen (if you wish to stress the action) In other words there are 3 ways of expressing this tense in English. In French there is only 1 way:- e.g. she sings } she is singing* } elle chante she does sing } *Note here that you must not translate is e.g. elle est chante

Regular Verbs There are 3 groups: er/ir/re verbs. They are grouped in these categories because they end in er/ir/re. ER verbs are by far the most numerous. ER Verbs To conjugate (to use an er verb in all its forms i.e. je, tu, il etc.) an er verb you must:- (a) take away (er) to obtain the stem e.g. chanter  chant (b) add endings on to the stem: e/es/e/ons/ez/ent

Present tense of an er verb Je chante – I sing/I am singing/I do sing Tu chantes – you sing/ you are singing/you do sing Il/elle chante – he/she sings; he/she is singing; does sing Nous chantons – we sing/we are singing/we do sing Vous chantez – you sing/you are singing/you do sing Ils/elles chantent – they sing/they are singing/they do sing sing.
