 Le pronom «lequel» veut dire “which” en anglais.  Has to agree in gender and number with the noun it replaces.  Lequel : masculine singular  Laquelle : feminine singular  Lesquels : masculine plural  Lesquelles : feminine plural  «Lequel» is usually an interrogative or a relative pronoun.

 Interrogative Pronoun  Replaces quel + noun  Quel livre veux-tu ? > Lequel veux-tu ?  Which book do you want? > Which one do you want?  Je veux la pomme là-bas. > Laquelle ?  I want the apple over there. > Which one?

 Relative Pronoun  Lequel replaces an inanimate object of a preposition (If the object of the preposition is a person, use qui).  Le livre dans lequel j'ai écrit...  The book in which I wrote...  La ville à laquelle je songe...  The town about which I'm dreaming...

 Must agree in gender and number with the noun they modify.  Ce : masculine singular  Ex: J’aime ce livre – I like this/that book.  Cet : in front of a masculine noun that begins with a vowel or mute h  Ex: Je connais cet homme – I know this/that man.  Cette : feminine singular  Ex: Cette fille est jolie – This/that girl is pretty.  Ces : plural  Je cherche ces livres – I am looking for this/those books.  NOTE: «Cettes» n’existe pas!!

This or that?? Ce, cet, and cette can all mean “this” or “that.” Ces can mean “these” or “those.” Other people can use the context to decide which one you mean. If you want to stress one or the other, use the suffixes –ci (here) or –là (there).  Examples :  Ce prof-ci est sympa.  This teacher is nice.  Cet étudiant-là comprend.  That student understands.  J’achète ces pommes-ci.  I am buying these apples.  Je préfère ces chaussures- là.  I prefer those shoes.
