The story behind the film This film is about during the World war I in the year 1914 on Christmas eve, the Germans, the French, and the Scottish were trying to make peace. So they bury their dead and play football. They stop fighting because is Christmas time and they all celebrate. They then start fighting again after all the celebrations. At the end of the film the general of the Germans finds out that some of the soldiers had made friends with the French. So they are sent to Russia where they will die because of the cold to be punished for what they did.

Le Poilus Barbus et moustachus, les conditions de vie des soldats de la première guerre mondiale ne leurs permettaient pas de se raser, ni d’être propres. En 1914, après un mois de guerre, les armées françaises et allemandes combattent depuis des tranchées : de longs fossés creusés entre les trous causés par les obus.

Ces tranchées sont sans confort : la pluie, la neige et les infiltrations d’eau ont vite fait de les remplir. Les poilus sont en permanence les pieds dans la boue. La vie quotidienne est très difficile, les soldats subissent le froid, le bruit des tirs, l’humidité. Ils souffrent aussi de la faim et sont attaqués par des rats.

La première guerre mondiale se termine le 11 novembre 1918. Plus de 8 millions de soldats sont tués et parmi eux près d’un million et demi de français.
