Locate one by using the French search engine (France’s version of google.com) and the type in “traducteur” (meaning translator) in the search box. Type a short paragraph in English about what you did last weekend and where you went. Use details and slang in your text. Find an online translator and copy/past your paragraph in the field titled de l’anglais au français. Next, take the translated text (in French) and put it in the translator again. This time put the text in the field titled du français à l’anglais. Now answer the following questions to evaluate your experiment: 1. How accurate were the results? Give a percentage. 2. How do you think your teacher could tell if you were to use an online translator? 3. Discuss with your partner why your teacher might ask you not to use online translators and what you discovered about learning a second language from doing this activity.
