Qu’est-ce-que c’est une échelle? La mesure sur une carte qui représente une distance réelle à la surface de la terre. Nous pouvons relier la surface d’une carte à la surface de la terre en utilisant trois types d’échelles.

Un centimètre représente 16 kilomètres 1- Une échelle verbale prend la forme d’une phrase. Un centimètre représente 16 kilomètres Donc, chaque centimètre sur la carte représente 16 kilomètres a la surface de la terre. Les échelles verbales sont faciles à utiliser mais seulement si le lecteur de carte comprend la langue de l’échelle.

2- Une échelle linéaire prend la forme d’une barre graduée. Ici, la barre est divisée en sections de 1 cm. chaque section représentant 1 kilomètre au sol. L’échelle linéaire est facile à utiliser si le lecteur de la carte est familier avec les unités de l’échelle. Ceci peut être un problème pour les touristes venant d'un pays métrique (km) qui voyagent dans un pays impérial (miles) et vice versa.

3- Le troisième est l’échelle représentative fractionnaire qui est écrit sous la forme de fraction ou de proportion ; 1/100 000 Ou 1 : 100 000 Dans cet exemple, une unité (millimètre, cm, pouce, pied, etc.) sur la carte représente 100 000 de ces mêmes unités sur le sol. L’échelle RF est le plus flexible car elle n'est pas associer à une seule unité. Vous pouvez l’ utiliser avec n'importe quelle unité que vous choisissez, métrique, impériale, ou autre.
